The MMA6900Q and MMA6901Q MEMS accelerometers from Freescale Semiconductor, Austin, TX, are designed for advanced automotive safety applications. The Xtrinsic accelerometers offer ±3.5 g (MMA6900Q) or ±5 g (MMA6901Q) measuring ranges with 11-bit data sensitivity, >100 kHz package resonance frequency, an overdamped transducer, bidirectional internal self-test, qualification to AEC-Q100, and embedded signal processing including fault and overload diagnostic flagging. The MMA6900Q features an 8.6 mg detection threshold (≥ 0.5°) and an offset tolerance at 25°C of ±30 mg (±50 mg over temperature). The sensors are supplied in a 6 by 6 mm QFN package and have an operating temperature range from –40°C to 105°C.
