The SFH 5712 from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, Sunnyvale, CA, is a low-voltage digital ambient light sensor with a direct I2C interface. Able to convert light intensity to a digital signal output, the sensor detects ambient brightness in the same way that the human eye does. It offers standard and high-speed data rates (up to 3.4 MHz), and is primarily intended for mobile applications in which the display's brightness is constantly adjusted according to the available ambient light. The sensor draws 150 µA during operation, 1.5 µA in stand-by mode, is 2 by 2 by 0.7 mm, and can be controlled via the I2C interface.
