SeRFNet active sensor RFID tags from Dynasys Technologies Inc., Clearwater, FL, are designed for long battery life and collect and transmit sensor data via a dynamic mesh-like RF network. The tags combine TI's RF transceivers and Raztec sensors for current sensing. The company developed the wireless network to monitor current loads and on/off times of critical devices for the USAF C130 aircraft to improve system reliability, reduce unscheduled maintenance, and eliminate obsolescence from systems used on the aircraft and supporting equipment. The network can also be used for asset tracking and location, temperature logging, and energy efficiency applications.
