The MotionPod from Movea SA, Grenoble, France, is a wireless, miniaturized inertial measurement unit (IMU) that uses MEMS sensors to measure 9-degrees-of-freedom motion with a PCB module that is about the size of a small wristwatch. The device incorporates a triaxial accelerometer, triaxial gyroscope, and triaxial magnetometer with software and a wireless interface. Each MotionPod has a built-in 2.4 GHz wireless transmitter that uses the company's proprietary wireless technology to give a transmission range of up to 30 m and up to 8 hr. of usage. Data from the device is transmitted to a receiver connected to a PC via USB. Multiple MotionPods can be networked to gather information from different parts of the body for performance analysis and full-body motion capture.
