The 6-axis Xtrinsic FXOS8700CQ from Freescale Semiconductor, Austin, TX, combines a 14-bit accelerometer and 16-bit magnetometer with a high-performance ASIC and embedded software in a 3 by 3 mm package. Intended for mobile applications, including augmented reality, gaming, navigation, and location-based services, the eCompass sensor fusion device provides a typical heading resolution of 0.1° and <5° heading accuracy. The dynamic range is ±1200 ±T for flexibility in placement on PCBs that incorporate permanent magnets. The device also has an embedded autonomous hard iron calibration for low-power hard iron offset compensation and is compatible with the company's Xtrinstic eCompass and calibration software that supports Android, Windows 8, and other OS.
