The AS5410 from austriamicrosystems AG, Unterpremstaetten, Austria, is a 3D Hall sensor device that senses absolute position in automotive and industrial applications. The device can perform absolute position sensing of a simple 2-pole magnet immediately after start-up, without needing a prior reference run within the application. Features include a differential architecture; position sensing over large mechanical travel distances, even with very small magnets; stable output when exposed to external stray magnetic fields; 4 preset basic operating modes selectable via SPI; and onchip signal conditioning. Programming the internal EEPROM lets the device convert a range of geometries, including curved movements, nonlinear scales, and tilted chip/magnet geometries into a linear output signal.
