2-Megapixel Sensors Enable Cost-Effective Mobile Devices

Groomed for use in tablets, phones, smartphones, and other mobile products, the OV2680 and OV2685 2-megapixel CameraChip sensors employ OmniVision’s 1.75-micron OmniPixel3-HS pixel technology. Including high-quality 2-megapixel still images, the sensors deliver video at 30 fps.


As per OmniVision, the devices balance cost and performance to deliver improved image and video quality while reducing both cost and footprint. Providing a cost-effective upgrade to previous generation 2-megapixel sensors, both sensors support an active array of 1600 x 1200 pixels (2-megapixel) operating at 30 fps and cropped 720p high-definition video at 60 fps. The OV2680 fits into a standard 5.5 mm x 5.5 mm x 4 mm module and the OV2685 is an integrated system-on-a-chip that fits into a 6 mm x 6 mm x 4 mm module. Sampling now, both are available in chip scale packages. Volume production is expected in the first quarter of 2014.
