The MCP3421 from Microchip Technology Inc., Chandler, AZ, is an 18-bit delta sigma ADC with an integrated voltage reference and PGA, available in a SOT-23 package. Suited for portable measurement applications in the industrial, medical, consumer, and automotive markets, the device uses an I2C-compatible serial interface, operates from a 2.7–5.5 V supply, and consumes 155 µA at 5 V continuous conversion. Using the onboard PGA you can choose gains of 1, 2, 4, or 8 before A/D conversion. The integrated voltage reference and oscillator reduce the need for external components.
