Here is a roundup of just a few of the latest and greatest pressure sensors

on the market, part one

Pressure Transducer Targets Industrial Applications

The Model XPA-1U pressure transducer from tecsis LP debuts as a highly accurate device, suitable for use in rugged industrial settings. It delivers 0.05% FSO (BFSL) accuracy with reliable repeatability. The XPA-1U requires 10-Vdc excitation and provides a standard 2-mV/V output with internal or in-line amplification optionally available. Pressure measurement ranges from 0 to 15 psi to 0 to 10,000 psi with gage or absolute reference. Other features include a burst pressure of 300% of the rated pressure, 17-4PH stainless steel wetted parts, and an operating temperature from -65° to +250°F, compensated from +60° to +160°F. Price starts at $885.

Heavy Duty Pressure Transducers Are Highly Configurable

Described as highly configurable components, Honeywell’s PX2 Series heavy-duty pressure transducers pair piezoresistive sensing technology with application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) signal conditioning. In stainless steel housings compatible with harsh media (brake fluid, refrigerants, engine oil, tap water, hydraulic fluids, and compressed air), the series is fully calibrated and compensated for transducer offset, sensitivity, temperature effects, and non-linearity via an on-board ASIC. Specs include pressure ranges from 7 bar to 46 bar (100 psi to 667 psi) and an operating temperature range from -40 ºC to +125 ºC.

Compact Pressure Sensor/Transducer Minds The Budget

The AST4100 stainless steel pressure sensor from American Sensor Technologies is described as both compact and low cost. The sensor is compatible with a wide range of liquids and gases over pressure ranges up to 10,000 PSI and is available with outputs of 10 mV/V, 1V to 5V, 1V to 6V, or 4 mA to 20 mA. Operating temperature range is from -40°C to +85°C. Additionally, AST4100 pressure sensors employ the company’s proprietary one-piece stainless steel sensing element with Krystal Bond technology.

Unique Pressure Sensor Technology Enables Compact designs

STMicroelectronics’ patented pressure-sensor technology isolates the pressure-sensing element within a fully molded package to meet the ultra-small form factor requirements for next generation of portable consumer devices. Integrating the isolated pressure-sensing element in a molded package allows for encapsulated wire bonding with zero risk of corrosion, elimination of wire bonding damage during pick and place assembly, zero risk of cap detachment or cap damage while the device is being mounted, and no impact on the sensor from the soldering process. Features include accuracy in the realm of ±0.2 mbar, zero drift, a noise figure of 0.010 mbar RMS, and a simplified calibration system.

Differential Pressure Transmitter Provides Closed-Tank Level Measurement

Keller America’s Series PRD-33 X differential pressure transmitter handles applications requiring high accuracy with high overload resistance in differential pressure ranges as low as 350 mbar. Integrating a second pressure sensor, line, or common mode, pressure can be measured along with the differential pressure. Features include a differential pressure range from 350 mbar to 3 bar, an overload resistance of ± 35 bar, and an RS-485 interface.

Sealed Sensors Suit Industrial Apps

Designed for industrial applications, Kavlico’s PTE5000 family of modular sensors feature a hermetically sealed design, making them suitable for use in harsh environments. Measuring about 20-mm high depending on the connector type, the low-weight components employ the company’s Thin Film strain gauge technology. They are available in standard pressure ranges from 0 to 6 bar to 0 to 600 bar with higher ranges available on request. Operating temperature ranges from -30°C to +100°C.

Solid-State Pressure Sensors Address Cost-Sensitive Designs

Description The NPC-410 Series of solid state pressure sensors from GE Sensing provide a cost-effective solution for applications that require long-term stability and high volume. In a dual-in-line configuration, the sensors are intended for PCB mounting and offer optional pressure port and lead configurations to accommodate low-profile apps where connection orientation is critical. Based on NovaSensor’s advanced SenStable piezoresistive sensing technology, the NPC-410 series is available in pressure ranges from 0 psi to 5 psi (0 bar to 0.34 bar) through 0 psi to 100 psi (0 bar to 7 bar). Contact the GE for other pressure ranges.

Digital Pressure Sensor Manages Stress Well

All Sensors’ DLVR Series mini digital output pressure sensor employs the company’s CoBeam2 technology that reduces package stress susceptibility. The technology also promises to improve position sensitivity compared to single die devices. Supply voltage options ease integration of the sensors into a wide range of process control and measurement systems, allowing direct connection to serial communications channels. For battery-powered systems, the sensors can enter very low-power modes between readings to minimize load to power supply. Specs include 1 to 60” H2O pressure ranges, an operating temperature range from -25°C to +85°C, and a better than 1% accuracy over temperature. An optional protective parylene coating is available for moisture/harsh media protection.
