MEMS & Sensors Industry Group Explores Automated Driving, Wearables, Smart Agriculture at European Conference

PITTSBURGH -- (February 18, 2016) -- Speakers at next month’s MEMS & Sensors Technical Congress 2016 in Munich, Germany, hosted by MEMS & Sensors Industry Group (MSIG), will examine the essential role of MEMS and sensors in helping to make new classes of applications a commercial reality. From BMW’s discussion of fully automated driving and Intel’s exploration of head-worn wearables to PlantCare AG’s presentation on smart agriculture, speakers will look to near-future MEMS/sensors-based products that will improve the human experience.

HIGHLIGHTED SPEAKERS OF MEMS & SENSORS TECHNICAL CONGRESS
Keynote Speaker Dr. Dirk Wisselmann, senior engineer “Automated Driving” in the BMW Chassis and Driver-Assistance Development, BMW Group, will discuss Beyond ADAS – Highly and Fully Automated Driving, using real-world examples from the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) of BMW’s new 7 series.
Rajashree Baskaran, senior technologist, Intel Corp, will address MEMS Technologies for Future Wearable Platforms: Opportunities and Challenges, focusing on small, low-power head-worn wearables that will offer intuitive, finger- and hands-free user-input technologies.
Walter Schmidt, founder & CEO, PlantCare AG, will present The Problem is Water -- Addressing the Technical Challenges to Commercializing Agricultural Applications of MEMS & Sensors, describing an extremely smart irrigation system with the potential to save water, increase yield and reduce dependence on fertilizers and pesticides.
MEMS & Sensors Technology Congress will be held March 7-8, 2016 at Sofitel Munich Bayerpost, Munich, Germany. March 7 will feature sessions at Fraunhofer EMFT and a tour of the facility. March 8 will feature the keynote and other presentations, an industry panel on the next decade of growth in MEMS/sensors, and Breakout Sessions that will actively engage attendees in the three most critical issues facing the MEMS and sensors industry – as identified in the 2015 MSIG Membership Survey.
