SK Enters Port and Maritime SectorsJuly 6, 2011
The company will begin working with port authorities and terminal operators to design and implement anti-collision systems for quay cranes, drayage trucks, and other mobile systems in the marine terminal environment.
LOS ANGELES /GLOBE NEWSWIRE/ -- SK Solutions (SK), a world leader in anti-collision software design and installation for the construction industry, is announcing its intent to enter the global port and maritime sectors. Specifically, SK will begin working with port authorities, terminal operators, and other stakeholders in the design and implementation of anti-collision systems for a host of equipment, including quay cranes, RTGs, drayage trucks, and other mobile systems in the marine terminal environment. After years of perfecting its proprietary software and its many applications in Europe and Asia, SK feels that the port sector is the next logical step in its robust international growth strategy.
"We are proud of our track record in the construction industry and are excited at bringing that same level of technological success to the port sector," said Dr. Severin Kezeu, CEO of SK Anywhere Inc. "Over the past 20 years, SK has worked with clients to create the best safety systems available for equipment and the construction environment. Given the safety issues and complexities present in the marine terminal space, we see our growth in the port environment as a natural progression."
A recent study by the TT Club, one of the world's largest insurance underwriters for maritime and transportation concerns, showed that collisions due to human error are the cause of over 70% of equipment damage claims in terminal and related facilities.
SK's leadership has recently been strengthened by a formal partnership with Honeywell, leading to the introduction of revolutionary aerospace technology sensors that are deployed in its systems. SK intends to use these sensors in its port applications.
SK is already working with specific ports to design a safety- and service-oriented architecture for their unique terminal environments. In doing so, the SK team is focusing on its GSM2 and SK Navigator applications, which provide a sophisticated, multi-applications operating system that incorporates the world's most advanced 3D anti-collision software, along with advanced applications for guidance and operation of any terminal equipment. Such technology will enable the equipment to avoid automatically any collision, accident, or risk within its operating environment.
