RAE Systems Granted United States Patent for DosimeterNovember 18, 2009
Radiation detector deployed in GammaRAE II R increases measurement range and detects rate and dose.
SAN JOSE, CA, -- RAE Systems Inc. (NYSE AMEX: RAE), a leader in delivering innovative sensor solutions to serve energy, hazardous material management, industrial safety, government safety and environmental markets worldwide, was granted U.S. Patent 7,592,603 B2 for a gamma radiation detector that can perform both rate and dose measurements simultaneously.
RAE Systems has similar patents pending in both the China and the European Union. Already deployed as an enhancement to RAE Systems' compact, handheld GammaRAE II R, this new radiation detector has applications for homeland security, first responders and hazardous material response.
Peter Hsi, chief technology officer for RAE Systems, said, "We believe this award asserts our leadership in detection innovation, and now we have 20 patents and patents pending. We work closely with our customers to ensure we continually enhance solutions to meet changing needs. Offering a higher dose rate range, our detector increases measurement from 10 REMS per hour to 600 REMS per hour. In fact, this dose range came at the request of a customer in South East Asia."
The GammaRAE II R contains a sensitive CsI (cesium iodide) scintillator for excellent search capability and fast response, as well as an energy-compensated PIN diode sensor for high dose rate range and accurate dosimeter capabilities. Other enhancements to the GammaRAE II R include a "stay-time" alarm to alert workers to their maximum allowable daily dose of radiation. The instrument includes visible, audible and vibration alarms. Also, it can be immersed in water for easy decontamination.
The GammaRAE II R is available from Authorized RAE Systems Distributors.
