Discera Ships World's Smallest, Thinnest Production OscillatorAugust 21, 2012
Full XO functionality in 0.5 mm-thin 1612 footprint eliminates external components for mobile, video, and audio applications.
SAN JOSE, CA -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Discera, Inc., a leading provider of silicon timing technology announced the production availability of the world's smallest and thinnest oscillator for mobile, video, and audio applications. The DSC3001 PureSilicon oscillator is available in frequencies up to 150 MHz and temperature ranges up to 105°C with shock resistance up to 30,000 G. The DSC3001 is the smallest and thinnest oscillator based on any technology to enter production, and leads a new generation of ultra-miniature, low power products from Discera.
"The need for ever smaller mobile and consumer electronics is driving demand for Silicon MEMS technology. Discera's newest oscillator reduces the space necessary for frequency control by over 70% while eliminating the need for external components," said Discera CTO Dr. Wan-Thai Hsu.
The DSC3001 series of oscillators is available in both low power and high precision configurations that consume as little as 3 mA of power and deliver higher frequency stability over wider temperature ranges for better performance than other crystal or silicon based products. By eliminating the need for mechanically-based quartz crystals, Discera's Silicon MEMS oscillators deliver 20 times better reliability and accelerate product development with shorter lead times.
The DSC3001 can be used in any design as a smaller, lower power substitute for a crystal oscillator (XO). It provides the timing function required by all electronic circuits. Key features include:
- Industry smallest 1.6 mm x 1.2 mm x 0.5 mm footprint
- Output frequency support from 1 to 150 MHz
- Frequency stabilities of 10, 25, 50 ppm across temperature and voltage
- Operating temperature range up to 105°C
- Supply current as low as 15 µA standby, 3 mA active from 1.7 to 3.6V
- Fast startup time of 1.0 ms
- MIL-STD883 shock and vibration tolerant to 30,000 G
- AEC-Q100 qualification for automobile applications
- Lead-free and RoHS compliant
The DSC3001 ultra-miniature oscillator is available now for production orders.
