The TEG from Nextreme, Research Triangle Park, NC, is a miniature thin-film thermoelectric generator that converts heat directly into electricity for automotive, military, aerospace, thermal batteries, medical implants, and wireless sensor network applications. The device uses bulk materials and has demonstrated output power levels of >100 mW at 70°K and >300 mW at 120°K. Modules are 3.5 by 3.5 mm with corresponding output power densities of ~1–3 W/cm2. The device generates electricity via the Seebeck effect. Prototypes are available.
