SANTA BARBARA, Calif /MARKET WIRE/ -- MachineTalker Inc., a developer of smart wireless security networks, has submitted its intelligent RFID units to the HERO certification process. When qualified, the company's iRFID product can be used for security and monitoring of explosive devices, particularly military ordnance.
A key feature of MachineTalker's design is to share information with adjacent Talkers by radio, where each can process data from its own sensors and correlate results with information from other Talkers in the area. The iRFID version of a MachineTalker is meant to be used to monitor the status and environment of cargo, including shipments of explosive materials. To qualify for this purpose, the device must be HERO certified.
HERO, which stands for hazard of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance, is a complex assessment process that seeks to ensure that any product that transmits radio frequency electromagnetic energy is not capable of accidental actuation of electro-explosive devices, such as fuses, or otherwise electrically activating ordnance.
Company president Roland F. Bryan said, "Our wireless security products are meant to be used in unattended remote applications where intelligence is needed to monitor the environment for harmful changes, log events in real-time, make decisions, and report details about the items being monitored.
"The iRFID is a hardened, encased, and smaller version of our MKIII ToughTalker. It will be attached to pallets or placed inside of crates of valuable, perishable, or dangerous cargo wherever information is to be gathered, maintained, and reported. It can be mistreated and still operate for several years on its own if programmed to do so."
