Synkera Receives NASA Funding for Humidity Microsensor

Under the Phase I SBIR, the company will adapt its ceramic MEMS platform to develop a humidity sensor for use in NASA spacecraft with closed-lop life support systems.

LONGMONT, CO -- Synkera was recently awarded a Phase I SBIR grant by NASA to develop an advanced humidity microsensor for process control within spacecraft closed loop life support systems.

This advanced, low-power humidity microsensor is based on a combination of Synkera's innovative nanomaterials and ceramic MEMS technology. The sensor will be designed to operate over a broad range (trace to 95%RH) and with built-in thermal regeneration capability to enable operation in challenging environments where conventional RH sensors cannot operate reliably or have a limited lifetime.

Beyond the NASA application, this humidity sensor has potential applications in food processing, agricultural and pharmaceutical industries, indoor air quality control, heating/air conditioning systems, and industrial process control.
